As the guard for the lodge, he is given the sword to fend off any cowens or eavesdroppers to the lodge. He is also charged with checking the credentials to to dismiss those who do not have the valid permissions to enter the lodge.

Just as with the Deacons' rods, the Stewards hold their rods with the authority to move about the lodge as they are under instruction of the Wardens or Master.

The Senior Warden assists the Master,symbolically pays the craft wages, and sees that non go away dissatisfied.

The Senior Deacon is the direct messenger for the Master, he also conducts candidates, and accommodates visitors.
